The Dark Mother, Goddess of the Night,
of the Deep Cave, the Source of all Light,
Your face I see cast in shadow,
Harsh lines etched with an obsidian arrow,
Why don’t you glow? Why don’t you shine?
With rainbow colours and celestial dancers,
Why don’t you fly? Why don’t you cry?
Do you smile? Do you laugh?
Is it you I see, or only my own mask?

Trails of tears I see through your eyes,
Wailing voices muted in mid-cry,
Thousands of years of silence and isolation,
What did we do? Oh Goddess, what did we do?

The Exile before me, The weight of history unfolding,
I cannot bear it all. How can She? How can anyone?

The Stolen Child, the Broken Womb,
The Maiden, The Innocent, The Virgin I saw,
She stands before me – called – Witch, Devil, Whore!

I fall to my knees and I weep,
